The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in thermal design, mechanical design, pressure part engineering, and ASME/IEC/EN standards, along with hands-on experience working with OEMs, EPC contractors, or HRSG suppliers over complete lifecycle design — concept engineering, detailed engineering, specification development, vendor interfacing, and supporting manufacturing, fabrication, and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities- Perform thermal sizing, heat balance calculations, pinch/approach analysis, and optimization of HRSG configurations (1x1, 2x1, triple-pressure, supplementary firing, etc.).
- Prepare and validate heat transfer surfaces, gas/steam temperature profiles, and pressure drops on water and steam circuits, air and flue gas calculations.
- Design and analyse pressure parts such as economizers, evaporators, superheaters, reheaters, steam drums, HP/IP/LP circuits.
- Prepare design documents including design basis, technical specifications, Datasheets for components, Performance guarantees, Bill of materials (BOM), Operating philosophy and startup/shutdown logic
- Selection of various Bought out items; preparation of specifications of balance of plants such as boiler feed pumps, condensers, heat exchangers, Deaerator, ACC, water treatment plants, cooling water systems etc
- Develop mechanical calculations per relevant codes (ASME Section I, Section VIII, PED, BSEN 12952, BSEN 13480).
- Strong working knowledge of ASME Section I, II, VIII, B31.1EN12952 / EN12953 / API, PED,PSSR, PESR, UKCA, NBIC, compliance
- Work with 3D modelling teams for HRSG layout, duct routing, steel structure integration, and support design.
- Ensure compliance with wind loads, seismic conditions, and structural integrity requirements.
- Review and approve vendor drawings, calculations, and technical documents and perform design audits, technical bid evaluations (TBE), and quality checks with HRSG OEMs.
- Collaborate with instrumentation, piping, structural, electrical, and project engineering teams and provide technical support .
- Ensure all engineering outputs meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards and deliver the outcomes as per the agreed schedules.
Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master’s in mechanical engineering, Power, Thermal Engineering, or equivalent.
- PGDG in Power Engineering offered by NPTI, India (Given advantage)
- Minimum 10 years in HRSG or boiler design with EPC or OEM experience.
- Strong knowledge of combined cycle power plant configuration and steam cycle thermodynamics.
- Design and analyses of HRSG, WHRB pressure parts such as economizers, evaporators, superheaters, reheaters, steam drums, HP/IP/LP circuits.
- Experience with pressure part design, materials selection, corrosion analysis, creep/fatigue, tube failure, fabrication and inspection and testing of pressure parts.
- Strong understanding of GT/HRSG interface issues such as exhaust temperature, mass flow, backpressure.
- Expertise in Thermal design software (ThermoFlow, ThermalFlexHRSGSim), Mechanical design tools (e.g., PV Elite, Caesar II, or equivalent), CFD/FEM tools (advantage, not mandatory)
Preferred Experience
- Experience in working with HRSG suppliers like Nooter Eriksen, Doosan, Alstom/GE, BHI, CMI, etc.
- Experience with supplementary firing, duct burners, diverter dampers, and bypass stacks.
- Experience in HRSGs, WHRBs, Conventional thermal plant boilers, retrofits, life-extension studies, and performance upgrade engineering.
