As a Principal Software Engineer, you will drive the design and implementation of highly scalable data paths and stores for backup and disaster recovery. You’ll collaborate with industry experts to tackle complex technical challenges in data integrity, scale, performance, and security. - Partner with stakeholders to determine user requirements for critical BCDR scenarios.
- Lead the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for Azure BCDR services and platforms.
- Mentor and lead by example, producing extensible and maintainable code used across products.
- Drive project and release planning, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver on business goals.
- Serve as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), monitoring system health and ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to emerging trends and technologies to improve product performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Foster a culture of customer obsession, live site excellence, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience designing, developing, and testing large-scale distributed systems and cloud services, with a focus on scalable, resilient architectures that ensure performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
- OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 6+ years experience working with distributed storage and cloud services, solving complex technical challenges at scale while applying strong communication skills and customer empathy in cross-functional environments.
- 6+ years experience mentoring and influencing engineers across teams, with a demonstrated ability to drive impact at the product level and foster collaboration.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
