Description

 The Clinical Services Liaison – RN, is responsible for: 

  • Positive and effective representation of the Mount Sinai Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU) Program and introducing the full scope of services offered to referring physicians, hospital case managers, provider staff, other referral sources, and patients and their caregivers. 
  • Providing education about the program and services to referral sources and patients. 
  • Assisting with clinical coordination of care between referral sources, the pharmacy, nursing and patient / patient caregivers, on behalf of Mount Sinai CRSU.  
  • Providing and utilizing clinical knowledge and skills to assist referral sources &/or patients with: 
    • The identification of appropriate candidates for clinical trial 
    • Assess the patients’ and/or caregivers ability to receive care on clinical trial 
  • Patient education and training regarding therapy and supplies, as well as, clarifying expectations of care on clinical trial  


Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining referral source relationships and responsive, caring customer service. 
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for engaging referral sources to identify opportunities to increase patient access to clinical trials.
  • Evaluates current and future clinical and service needs for existing and new service areas.
  • As appropriate &/or required, coordinates &/or conducts in-services and continuing education programs for referral sources and their support staff. 
  • Collaborates with referral sources (i.e. referring physicians hospital case managers, physician offices) and Mount staff to facilitate the coordination of care for referrals to Mount Sinai clinical trials. 
  • Coordinates and communicates all critical workflow activities for new patient referrals to clinical research team personnel and referral sources, including, but not limited to:
    • Intake 
    • Clinical Operations: Pharmacy &/or Nursing 
    • Reimbursement, if required 
  • Appropriately documents the coordination of care activity including, but not limited to:  
    • Communication with study sponsor
    • All communication with patients, referral sources, physicians and Mount Sinai personnel 
    • All patient &/or caregiver education & training. 
  • Ensures all documentation is legible, accurate and complete and complies with CRSU policies & procedures, as well as regulatory and accreditation standards. 
  • Maintains up-to-date referral source records, as well as, any other requested records in accordance with Mount Sinai CRSU policies, procedures &/or business goals. 
    • Assist with activities to achieve favorable net revenue and gross profit goals for Mount Sinai CRSU.
    • Represents Mount Sinai CRSU n a professional and positive manner. 
    • Attend and participate in appropriate meetings, outreach meetings and training programs 
    • Coordination and cross-training of departmental work duties to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency. 
    • Remains current with developments in field of clinical research
    • Comply with all company policies and directives for the fulfillment of the company objectives

PATIENT CARE

  • Assesses and evaluates patient care needs and applies critical thinking skills in patient care management.
  • Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.
  • Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including teaching, coaching, and planning “after hospital care” and delegating to others as appropriate.
  • Educates patients and caregivers while anticipating needs and readiness to learn, about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, family and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team.

  • Implements principles of high reliability to identify and avoid high risk behaviors to provide a safe environment for patients.
  • Escalates potential safety hazards or gaps from best practice following institutional chain of command protocol.
  • Utilizes institutional information technology by documenting nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or school of nursing.
  • Relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice assigned
  • Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State
  • Name: Basic Life Saver (BCLS)  Issuing Agency: AHA

Strongly Preferred: 

  • 3 years of nursing related experience 
  • 2 years of oncology experience
  • 1 year of research  experience 
  • Oncology Nurse Certification strongly preferred
